    The full history matters.

Bipolar depression occurs within bipolar disorder, which involves depressive episodes and episodes of mania or hypomania. Looking only at the current low mood can miss important parts of the picture.

We ask about changes in sleep, energy, activity, irritability, and decision-making over time, along with previous treatment and family history.

A plan for today and for the long term.

Treatment commonly combines medication management with psychotherapy and support for daily routines. Some medications require laboratory tests or other monitoring. We explain the purpose of your treatment and what to watch for between appointments.

Antidepressants alone may trigger mania in some people with bipolar disorder. This is one reason an accurate history and ongoing follow-up are important.

    Follow-up with continuity.

Your visits focus on how you are actually doing: mood, sleep, daily functioning, medication effects, and what has changed since we last met. We work with you on recognizing early warning signs and making a plan for worsening symptoms.

If you have an existing diagnosis, bring prior records and your medication list. If the diagnosis is uncertain, we can begin with a careful evaluation.

Online care with the right level of support.

Florida telehealth appointments can support ongoing outpatient care. Severe mania, psychosis, or immediate safety concerns need urgent in-person evaluation rather than waiting for a routine video appointment.

We can discuss coordination with your therapist and other clinicians when appropriate and authorized. Learn more about psychotherapy and medication management.

    A few questions, answered

Is bipolar depression the same as major depression?

No. Depressive symptoms can look similar, but a history of mania or hypomania changes the diagnosis and treatment approach.

Can you help if I already take medication?

Yes. We can review your current regimen, past response, monitoring needs, and goals at an evaluation.

    Will I need lab work?

Some medications require blood tests or other checks. Monitoring depends on the medication and your health history, and we will explain what is needed.

Can I be seen anywhere in Florida?

Appointments are available by secure telehealth while you are located in Florida. Urgent or severe symptoms may require a different level of care.
